Job summary

Universal Music Australia invites applications for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. You will support month-end closing, assist with statutory reporting, fixed assets, lease accounting and tax support, while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.

The role focuses on delivering timely, compliant financial statements and management packs, with opportunities to develop within a leading global music company.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years' experience in financial accounting or reporting, ideally in high-volume environments.
• Progress towards CA or CPA; CA candidates should have completed at least 50% of exams.
• Experience with SAP and IFRS 16, and strong Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the month-end close process with trial balance postings, journals, reconciliations and reporting.
• Assist in monthly management reporting packs and annual financial statements.
• Prepare reporting and journals for joint ventures and subsidiary entities.
• Manage fixed assets and lease accounting per IFRS 16.
• Prepare monthly ARIA reporting; assist with BAS, FBT and tax journals; support audits.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a broad range of financial activities, from month-end reporting and statutory compliance to fixed assets, lease accounting, and tax support, while partnering with teams across the business to ensure the integrity of our financial reporting.

About the Role:

• Support the month-end close process, including trial balance postings, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management reporting packs and annual financial statements
• Prepare reporting and journals for joint ventures and subsidiary entities, ensuring accuracy and timely processing
• Manage fixed assets and lease accounting in accordance with IFRS 16 requirements
• Prepare monthly ARIA reporting, ensuring sales and revenue data is accurately compiled, validated, and reconciled
• Assist with tax compliance activities, including BAS, FBT, income tax support, and tax journals
• Support internal and external audit requirements, SOX controls, and continuous improvement initiatives across the Finance function

About You:

You are organised, proactive, and enjoy working with numbers. You have a strong eye for detail, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and are committed to delivering accurate financial information while continuously looking for ways to improve processes.

You will bring:

• 2-3 years' experience in financial accounting or reporting, ideally within a high-volume environment
• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• Progress towards your CA or CPA qualification (CA candidates should have completed at least 50% of exams)
• Experience working with ERP systems, preferably SAP, with strong Excel skills
• Knowledge of financial reporting, fixed assets, lease accounting, and tax accounting principles
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
• A proactive mindset, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement
