Job summary

Segafredo Bean Alliance Australia in Melbourne is seeking a proactive Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. You will support both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable and help improve finance processes.

The role covers reconciliations, rebates, discounts, claims and deductions, with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting. SAP Business One experience is highly regarded.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in AR, AP or Assistant Accountant role.
• Hands-on experience with SAP Business One is highly regarded.
• Experience in manufacturing, wholesale or FMCG environments.
• Strong understanding of customer rebates, trade discounts and reconciliations.
• Sound knowledge of accounting principles and month-end processes.
• Strong Excel skills including VLOOKUP, pivot tables and data reconciliations.

Job description

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team.

The role will support both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, with a strong focus on customer and supplier reconciliations, trade rebates, promotional discounts, claims and deductions.

Working closely with the Finance, Sales and Operations teams, the successful candidate will also assist with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting and the ongoing improvement of finance processes.

Key responsibilities

Accounts Receivable & Credit Control

• Process and allocate daily customer receipts, ensuring accurate reconciliation against outstanding invoices.
• Monitor aged debtors, follow up overdue accounts and resolve outstanding payment issues.
• Maintain customer master data, payment terms, credit limits and pricing arrangements.
• Assist with credit applications, credit checks and account approvals.

Accounts Payable & Supplier Reconciliations

• Process supplier invoices, credit notes and payments accurately and on time.
• Reconcile supplier statements and investigate outstanding discrepancies.
• Assist with supplier payment runs and ensure compliance with internal approval processes.
• Maintain supplier master data and payment information.
• Review outstanding creditor balances and assist with month-end AP reconciliations.

Trade Rebates, Discounts & Reconciliations

• Maintain and reconcile customer trading agreements, including volume rebates, growth incentives, promotional discounts and trade spend.
• Calculate and reconcile monthly rebate accruals against sales activity and contractual agreements.
• Review and validate customer claims, retailer deductions and promotional allowances.
• Investigate discrepancies between customer deductions, agreed trading terms and recorded accruals.
• Work closely with Sales and Finance to ensure trade promotions and rebates are accurately accounted for.
• Prepare supporting reconciliations and schedules for month-end reporting.
• Assist with month-end closing processes, including journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Prepare and maintain balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations.
• Assist with bank reconciliations and intercompany transactions.
• Support financial reporting, audit requirements and general accounting activities.
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting accuracy.
• Support the Finance team with ad hoc analysis and operational requirements.

About you

• Minimum 3 years' experience in an Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable or Assistant Accountant role.
• Hands-on experience with SAP Business One, highly regarded.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing, wholesale or FMCG environment.
• Strong understanding of customer rebates, trade discounts, promotional claims and reconciliations.
• Sound knowledge of accounting principles and month-end processes.
• Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables and data reconciliations.
• High attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Confident communicator with the ability to work across Finance, Sales and Operations.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce, completed or nearing completion.
• Experience dealing with major Australian retailers and distributor trading arrangements will be highly regarded.
• Exposure to group accounting and intercompany reconciliations is desirable.
