Job summary

Australian Signals Directorate is seeking a Technical Data Officer based in Geraldton, WA, to manage satellite antenna configuration and data. You will establish baselines, track changes, support audits, and ensure data accuracy across lifecycle stages.

You will work with RFAS Engineering and Sustainment teams, maintain documentation, and mentor colleagues to uphold high standards of quality and compliance in a dynamic, cross-site environment.

Responsibilities

• Accountable under broad direction to undertake complex technical configuration activities.
• Engage with stakeholders, investigate, report, develop, evaluate, advise and implement policies, processes, procedures and practice.
• Provide configuration knowledge to support technical and engineering activities and ensure quality and compliance with relevant legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
• Exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures.
• Working with the RFAS Engineering and Sustainment teams to define the standard and approved state against core configuration items.
• Tracking, reviewing and overseeing the approval of any modifications to the Satellite Antenna Baselines.
• Overseeing the meticulous recording and reporting of all changes and current states.
• Periodically reviewing the antenna fleet to ensure designated baselines are correct and early detection of any "configuration drift".
• Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, share own expertise with others and guide and mentor less experienced employees.
• Design and establish configuration management and data management documentation.
• Lead capability development across people, processes, tools, and training within the Configuration Management function.
• Mentor team members to build consistency, quality, and technical excellence within the Configuration Management function.
• Coordinate configuration and data management activities across multi-disciplinary program teams.
• Apply robust configuration management principles to maintain product integrity and support digital engineering initiatives.
• Provide specialist expertise in Product Lifecycle Management systems to integrate configuration data across tools and environments.

Job description

Access Foundation Branch within Mission Capability Division is a cross functional, integrated team of analysts, developers, engineers, Radio Frequency (RF) technicians and project specialists working to deliver critical capabilities against some of ASD's hardest SIGINT access problems.

Shoal Bay Receiving Station (SBRS) based in Darwin and Australian Defence Satellite Communications Station (ADSCS) based in Geraldton are remote intelligence facilities managed by ASD. Working at our sites will offer a unique and challenging work environment where experienced public sector professionals work alongside highly skilled technical experts to achieve exciting outcomes for ASD. You will be required to work closely between the two sites and other areas across the organisation.

Due to the unique nature of the work conducted at this location, staff may be provided the opportunity to obtain a range of additional qualifications including construction cards, truck and forklift licenses.

A Technical Data Officer will work within a team responsible for maintaining accurate configuration records for satellite antenna systems. This includes establishing baselines, tracking changes over the life of the equipment, conducting regular checks, and supporting audits to ensure configuration data is accurate and up to date.
