Job summary

Firesoft People is seeking a founding Platform Engineer in Sydney to design and own the backend for an enterprise AI product. You will work directly with the CTO to shape architecture and delivery.

You'll own core services, APIs, data models and security, with hands-on responsibility from design to production readiness as the product moves toward its first commercial release.

Want to build the technical foundations of an enterprise AI product and have a direct say in its architecture?

We’re working with an emerging AI software business looking for a Founding Platform Engineer to work directly with its CTO and help deliver its initial commercial product.

The platform helps organisations understand how their people, processes and technology connect, giving them the information to identify inefficiencies, uncover automation opportunities and support AI agents.

You’ll own the backend infrastructure that makes this information reliable, accessible and secure. It’s a hands-on engineering role with significant architectural ownership.

In this role, you’ll:

• Architect and build the core backend services using Python and PostgreSQL.
• Design scalable data models and database architectures.
• Develop APIs that allow applications and AI agents to access organisational knowledge.
• Build systems to store, version and update complex relationships across business information.
• Implement security, access controls and data isolation.
• Establish deployment, monitoring, testing and recovery processes.
• Integrate with enterprise software and external systems.

You’ll work alongside a Knowledge Engineer focused on extracting and understanding information, while you build the systems that store, manage and serve it.

We’re keen to speak with engineers who bring:

• Strong backend development skills in Python, with experience designing APIs and services.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, relational databases and complex data modelling.
• An understanding of secure, reliable production systems.
• Confidence making pragmatic architecture decisions and taking ownership from design through to delivery.

Experience with knowledge graphs, AI platforms or enterprise integrations would also be relevant.
