Job summary

Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia seeks an Arborist to support site-wide arboriculture and horticulture services across the precinct. You will help maintain tree health, safety and presentation while collaborating with venue, event and operations teams.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Horticulture (Arboriculture) required.
• 3–5 years’ experience in tree assessment or a similar tree management role.
• Current ACUP licence.
• Chainsaw and tree felling certificates.
• Public spaces horticulture/arboriculture experience.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong stakeholder management and teamwork.

• Moderate computer literacy; MS Office.

Responsibilities

MelbournePark is an iconic, multi-venue, world-renowned precinct that delivers hundredsof diverse sport, entertainment and community events each year, including oneof only four tennis Grand Slams in the world – the Australian Open.

TheMelbourne Park precinct is home to six of Melbourne’s premier venues – RodLaver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, John Cain Arena, AAMI Park, Kia Arena andCENTREPIECE at Melbourne Park – as well as the National Tennis Centre, two showcourts, 35 outdoor tennis courts, six indoor tennis courts, Tennis HQ, OlympicPark Oval, Gosch’s Paddock and the KGM Centre.

OurHorticulture & Sports Grounds team plays an essential role in maintainingand enhancing these diverse spaces, ensuring Melbourne Park has world-classgrounds, gardens and facilities to support our events, tenants, athletes,visitors and community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reportingto the Horticulture Manager, the Arborist is an integral member of MelbournePark’s Horticulture Team, responsible for supporting the delivery of site-widearboriculture and horticulture services across the precinct.

You’llplay an important role in maintaining the health, safety and presentation ofMelbourne Park’s extensive tree population, while also contributing tohorticulture programs, open space turf management and large-scale landscapeprojects.

Workingalongside a team of horticulture and sports turf experts, you’ll collaborateclosely with venue, event and operations teams, tenants, business partners andexternal arboriculture providers to ensure the precinct is safe, healthy andpresented to world-class standards.

Thisis an exciting opportunity for an experienced Arborist to work within a unique,high-profile public environment and contribute to the presentation and ongoingdevelopment of one of Australia’s most significant sporting and entertainmentprecincts.

WHAT YOU’LL FOCUS ON

• Assist in the delivery of the site-wide tree management program, ensuring Melbourne Park’s mature trees are healthy, well maintained and safe for visitors, staff and event participants
• Coordinate and liaise with Melbourne Park-engaged arborists and contractors to support effective tree management programs
• Contribute to horticulture programs across the precinct, maintaining world-class presentation standards across gardens, landscapes and open spaces
• Assist with the planning and programming of annual garden beds and larger-scale horticultural projects
• Apply chemicals and fertilisers safely and in accordance with current standards and requirements
• Support the management and maintenance of high-profile lawns and open space turf areas across the precinct
• Assist with the collection and maintenance of horticulture-related data and records
• Operate horticultural machinery and equipment safely and effectively within a busy public environment
• Identify tree, horticultural and site-related issues and recommend practical solutions
• Work collaboratively with venue and event teams to ensure horticultural activities support the safe and successful delivery of events
• Participate in toolbox meetings and actively promote safe working practices across the Horticulture Team and broader precinct
• Build positive and professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including tenants, venue teams, event teams, business partners and venue hirers
• Contribute to continuous improvement and best-practice horticultural and arboricultural practices across Melbourne Park

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• Certificate III in Horticulture (Arboriculture)
• At least 3-5 years’ experience in tree assessment, reporting or a similar tree management role.
• Current ACUP licence
• Chainsaw operator and tree felling certificates
• Demonstrated experience in horticulture and arboriculture within public spaces
• Experience operating horticultural machinery and equipment in a public environment
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build positive and effective relationships
• A collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify problems, develop appropriate responses and implement practical solutions
• Understanding of safe work practices and the ability to consistently operate in accordance with relevant safety requirements
• Moderate computer literacy, including a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

DESIRED

• Certificate III in Parks & Gardens or working towards completion
• Experience in major event, facility and/or venue operations
• Experience working within the event industry or at a place of public entertainment
• Understanding of work health and safety practices
