Job summary

Randstad is seeking an APS6 Project Officer to join a collaborative federal government department. You will plan, manage, and deliver workforce readiness projects within established governance frameworks and contribute to continuous operational improvement.

You will coordinate schedules, monitor budgets, manage risks and dependencies, and develop dashboards and executive briefs for senior leaders, ensuring milestones are met on time.

Qualifications

• Proven experience interrogating, validating, and analysing complex, multi-source datasets.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, pivot tables, lookup functions, data validation).
• Familiarity with digital collaboration platforms (Teams, SharePoint) and business intelligence tools such as Power BI.
• Experience developing project plans, managing risk registers, monitoring budgets, and governance in a formal project framework.
• Ability to write high-quality business cases, executive briefs, and status reports for senior leadership.
• Strong critical thinking to identify root causes and practical solutions; excellent collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in government/public sector projects, ideally in disability/health/human services sectors.

• The APS6 Project Officer will be responsible for planning, managing, and delivering workforce readiness projects in alignment with established project management frameworks and organisational objectives.
• Work under limited direction, coordinating project schedules, tracking budgets, overseeing quality assurance, and managing risks, issues, and dependencies to ensure milestones are met on time.
• Manage and analyse complex datasets to identify trends and risks, build reporting dashboards and products, and translate data into clear, actionable insights for senior executives and stakeholders.
• Lead stakeholder engagement, draft executive briefs, business cases, and corporate documentation, and develop resources and support materials to drive continuous operational improvement.

What you will need

• High-level critical thinking to identify root causes and practical solutions, alongside the interpersonal skills needed to influence and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Prior experience working within a government agency, department, or public sector project environment-ideally with an understanding of disability, health, or human services sectors.
