Job summary

Randstad is seeking an APS6 Design Strategist for a federal government department. The role leads strategic policy initiatives, drives complex project delivery, and shapes team workflows to support high-priority objectives under limited direction.

You will conduct independent research, analyze policy directions, and draft executive briefs, business cases, and ministerial correspondence, while managing schedules, budgets and risks and collaborating with stakeholders.

In this role, you will leverage strong relationship-building skills to tackle complex challenges and drive meaningful impact across the public sector. About your new role

The APS6 Design Strategist will lead strategic policy initiatives, complex project delivery, and team workflows to support high-priority agency objectives under limited direction . This leadership position involves conducting independent research, analysing policy directions, and drafting critical executive briefs, business cases, and ministerial correspondence . You will manage project schedules, monitor budgets and risks, provide expert advice, and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to drive impactful outcomes .

What you will need to exceed Ability to undertake independent research, interpret complex legislation and policy frameworks, and draft high-level reports, business cases, speeches, and Ministerial correspondence . Strong team leadership to guide staff, manage performance, and exercise delegated authority to resolve operational challenges under limited direction .

Experience creating and managing project schedules, tracking budgets and expenditure, mitigating risks/issues, and ensuring quality control in deliverables. Skilled in liaising across internal and external networks, participating in committees/forums, and providing specialist advice on complex policy or workforce development matters . Desirable

Desirable

At least 3 years' experience in policy, strategy, or a related sector, along with a tertiary qualification and familiarity with health, disability, or allied health environments (desirable) .
