Job summary

Randstad is seeking an APS6 Design Strategist to lead strategic policy initiatives and complex project delivery within a federal department. You will manage schedules, budgets, risks, and provide expert advice while collaborating with diverse stakeholders to advance agency objectives.

The role requires independent research, interpretation of legislation, and drafting executive briefs, business cases, and ministerial correspondence. A tertiary qualification is desirable.

About your new role

The APS6 Design Strategist will lead strategic policy initiatives, complex project delivery, and team workflows to support high-priority agency objectives under limited direction. This leadership position involves conducting independent research, analysing policy directions, and drafting critical executive briefs, business cases, and ministerial correspondence. You will manage project schedules, monitor budgets and risks, provide expert advice, and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to drive impactful outcomes. What you will need to exceed

• Ability to undertake independent research, interpret complex legislation and policy frameworks, and draft high-level reports, business cases, speeches, and Ministerial correspondence.
• Strong team leadership to guide staff, manage performance, and exercise delegated authority to resolve operational challenges under limited direction.
• Experience creating and managing project schedules, tracking budgets and expenditure, mitigating risks/issues, and ensuring quality control in deliverables.
• Skilled in liaising across internal and external networks, participating in committees/forums, and providing specialist advice on complex policy or workforce development matters.
• At least 3 years' experience in policy, strategy, or a related sector, along with a tertiary qualification and familiarity with health, disability, or allied health environments (desirable).
