RØDE is seeking an Apprentice Toolmaker to join the Engineering Operations (Toolroom) team in Parramatta, NSW. You will undertake a 4-year Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade, working alongside qualified Toolmakers to learn moulds, tooling, and precision component fabrication.

You'll develop skills in interpreting drawings, operating workshop machinery, and adhering to safety practices while supporting production and repairs on the shop floor.

About The Role

As an Apprentice Toolmaker in our Engineering Operations (Toolroom) team, you will begin a structured, hands-on career path in precision engineering. You will complete a nationally recognised qualification in Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade over 4 years.

Working under the guidance of experienced tradespeople, you will learn how to make and repair moulds, dies, jigs, fixtures, press tools, and other special-purpose equipment that supports our manufacturing operations. Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will develop skills in using workshop machinery, interpreting technical drawings, and applying safe work practices. This role suits someone with a strong interest in mechanical or manufacturing trades, who enjoys practical, detail-focused work and is committed to completing a full apprenticeship starting January 2027.

What You’ll Do
  • Work alongside qualified Toolmakers to manufacture and repair moulds, dies, jigs, fixtures, press tools and special equipment used in production
  • Learn to interpret and work from engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • Operate and maintain workshop machinery and hand tools under supervision, such as lathes, milling machines, grinders and drilling machines
  • Develop skills in measuring, marking out, machining, fitting and assembly of precision components
  • Follow safe work practices and contribute to a clean, organised and efficient toolroom environment
  • Assist with troubleshooting tooling issues on the shop floor and participate in repairs or modifications
  • Complete all on-the-job training tasks and off-the-job (trade school/TAFE) study requirements as part of the apprenticeship program
  • Collaborate with team members in Engineering Operations and other departments to support production needs
  • Continuously build your technical knowledge, problem-solving skills and quality focus throughout the apprenticeship
About You
  • Ability to commence a full-time apprenticeship in January 2027
  • Willingness and eligibility to undertake and complete a full apprenticeship term, including all study and training requirements
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated interest or passion for the Toolmaking or mechanical/manufacturing trade (e.g. school subjects, hobbies, projects or related work experience)
  • Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills, plus a proactive attitude to training and feedback
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills appropriate for a workshop and training environment
  • Basic numeracy and mechanical aptitude, with the ability to understand measurements and follow technical instructions
  • Commitment to working safely and following workplace health and safety procedures
  • Reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic suitable for an hourly, full-time apprenticeship role
