Job summary

Rockhampton Regional Council is offering an Apprenticeship for a Fitter and Turner, located in Rockhampton. The program combines on‑the‑job training with structured study to help you gain practical skills and a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade over a four-year period.

You’ll work with skilled tradespeople on maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment, and will learn welding, fault finding and plant investigations while applying maintenance principles in real

Are you mechanically minded and want to start a career pathway into Fitting and Turning? Join our team at Rockhampton Regional Council by applying for an Apprentice Fitter and Turner position.

Our skilled trade professionals will assist you to apply your practical skills and gain knowledge to perform a wide range of maintenance functions for equipment including mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment, pumps, motors, and chemical dosing equipment, mobile and fixed machinery. You will gain valuable hands-on experience welding, using small plant and tools, fault finding and caring out plant investigations and understanding plan maintenance practices and principles.With the help of our qualified team, gain your Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade which has 4-year nominal study term.

Your enthusiasm and passion will motivate you to be a valuable team member and produce quality outcomes by taking pride in your work.

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

Assessment & Selection Period

Applicants should be available during the following assessment dates:

  • All Apprenticeships & Traineeships (excluding BATS):Tuesday, 8 September – Thursday, 10 September 2026

To be eligible for this role, applicants must be

  • Aged 15 years or older and no longer at school.
  • Able to meet citizen, residency, and visa requirements to undertake a traineeship.
  • In possession of a C Class Driver Licence (Minimum Provisional).
  • Able to complete a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

Rockhampton Regional Council Traineeship & Apprenticeship opportunities are made available with the assistance of government funding. This position is subject to further eligibility requirements. Applicants must meet one of the following identified groups (you can meet more than one requirement):
