Job summary

Rockhampton Regional Council is offering Gardener Trainee opportunities in Rockhampton. Over a 12-month fixed-term traineeship you’ll gain hands-on horticulture experience while working toward a Certificate II in Horticulture, learning to maintain public spaces with Parks teams.

Ideal candidates are outdoors-loving, team players who are eager to learn and contribute to the community’s beautification, under guidance of experienced Council staff.

  • Learn to operate small machinery and hand tools as part of training.

As a Trainee Gardener, you’ll gain hands on experience in horticulture and landscape maintenance while working towards aCertificate II in Horticulture. Over the12 month, Fixed Term Full Time traineeship,you’ll learn to operate small machinery and hand tools, maintain public green spaces, and contribute to the beautification of our community, all under the guidance of experienced and supportive Council teams.

Assessment & Selection Period

Applicants should be available during the following assessment dates:

All Apprenticeships & Traineeships (excluding BATS):
Tuesday, 8 September – Thursday, 10 September 2026

To be eligible for this role, applicants must be
  • Aged 15 years or older and no longer at school.
  • Able to meet citizen, residency, and visa requirements to undertake a traineeship.
  • In possession of a C Class Driver Licence (Minimum Provisional).
  • Able to complete a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

Rockhampton Regional Council Traineeship & Apprenticeship opportunities are made available with the assistance of government funding. This position is subject to further eligibility requirements. Applicants must meet one of the following identified groups (you can meet more than one requirement):
