Job description

Contract, Apprenticeship, Casual/Temporary

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to about 1 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

Designed for local school leavers, our four-year apprentice program provides pathways to achieve a trade certificate as a Fitter & Machinist, an Electrician, or an Electronics & Communications technician. Through TAFE, successful candidates will work towards a Certificate III in Electrotechnology, Engineering - Mechanical Trade, or Electronics and Communications, supported by practical on-the-job training and guidance from our skilled tradespersons.

To broaden your skill set, this apprenticeship offers potential rotations across various Snowy Scheme operating and maintenance hubs, including Jindabyne, Cooma, Cabramurra, Khancoban, and Talbingo.

What we look for:
  • A proactive, reliable, and punctual individual with a strong passion for their chosen trade and motivation to grow.
  • An independent problem solver and self-driven learner with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Someone with an inherent curiosity to explore and understand how systems and machinery function.
  • The capability to follow guidance effectively and operate both autonomously and within a team environment.
  • Alignment with Snowy Hydro core values: safety, teamwork, agility, decency, ownership, and courage.
What makes our program truly unique?
  • Iconic Assets: Hands-on work with some of the most complex and technical engineering feats in the world, the Snowy Scheme is often described as an "engineering wonder of the world"
  • Vibrant Community & Lifestyle: Be part of a supportive and inspiring team with a strong values led culture, where people and safety come first. We offer working patterns in our regions that provide excellent work life balance and opportunities to explore the Snowy Mountains Area. There is a range of outdoor activities, regardless of the season, with easy access to the stunning Sapphire Coast and Canberra as well.
  • Award-Winning Workplace: We are proud to be ranked 4th on TIME's Best Employers 2025 list
What the Program Offers:
  • Opportunities to discover your strengths, learn, and progress within our organisation.
  • Professional and personal growth opportunities while securing your trade qualification.
  • Mentorship from experienced professionals in an evolving technical landscape, featuring annual rotations across diverse regional locations.
  • A path toward building a rewarding long-term career while enjoying a balanced regional lifestyle.

Beyond the diverse work and great community, we offer some of Australia's most beautiful work locations (accommodation is provided). If you are looking to launch a rewarding trade career, there is no better place to start than Snowy.

Applications close Sunday 23 August 2026
