Job description

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the iconic Snowy Hydro-electric Scheme, gas and diesel electricity generating plants, and contracted wind and solar energy in the National Electricity Market. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

Snowy 2.0, currently under construction, is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

Are you a driven mechanical engineer looking to leave your mark on a once-in-a-generation engineering feat? We are seeking a proactive Project Engineer - Mechanical to join the Snowy 2.0 Owners Team. Your primary focus will be providing critical engineering oversight and assurance for mechanical construction and installation works, ensuring everything is built safely, to specification, and without compromising the project's legacy.

Key Responsibilities:

Working closely with the Site Manager - Mechanical and the broader engineering team, you will drive project delivery and quality assurance on the ground:

Installation & Oversight: Provide daily onsite assurance that the Contractor is meeting Employer Requirements, latest methodologies, and IFC drawings.

Quality & Compliance: Monitor Witness and Hold Points, review the Contractor's Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and actively manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).

Site Coordination: Ensure daily physical attendance at all active work fronts, maintaining accurate electronic records, daily progress reports, and site photography.

Technical Support: Assist in reviewing Safety in Design studies, risk assessments, and construction readiness documentation, while providing technical guidance to Site Engineers and Technical Officers.

Commissioning: Participate in commissioning sequence reviews, ensuring safe and logical integration between E&M and Civil work packages to deliver a seamless handover.

About the location:

This role will require you to be 100% on-site, working off a 14/7 FIFO roster. Standard FIFO camp-style arrangements are included. We may also look at a 5/2 (Mon-FrI) arrangement for the right candidate.

About you:

To hit the ground running, you will be a proactive, problem-solving engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, remote site environment:

Qualifications: Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering (satisfying eligibility requirements for Corporate Membership of Engineers Australia).

Experience: Proven experience working on large-scale, complex civil engineering, infrastructure, or heavy industrial projects. (Hydropower experience is highly advantageous).

Technical Sharpness: Strong capability in navigating complex contract interfaces, reviewing engineering documentation, and managing site-based QA/QC processes.

Autonomy & Drive: The ability to work independently in a remote environment, adapt quickly to changing business demands, and proactively identify issues before they impact the schedule.

Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, contractors, and stakeholders.

Values: A steadfast commitment to health, safety, and creating a positive workplace, aligning with Snowy Hydro's core values.

About our workforce:
