Job summary

Delkon Stairs & Carpentry in Canberra is seeking an apprentice cabinetmaker for the staircase division. You’ll learn how premium timber staircases are manufactured and installed, working in a state‑of‑the‑art factory with CNC technology including a Biesse Rover, and on site with timber, metal and glass.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across factory and installation work, developing skills from timber machining to precise assembly and finishing, while following safety and quality standards.

APPRENTICE CABINETMAKER – STAIRCASE DIVISION

We’re looking for a motivated apprentice to join our Staircase Division and learn the cabinetmaking trade while specialising in the manufacture and installation of high-end custom timber staircases.

This isn’t your typical apprenticeship.

You’ll be working out of our state-of-the-art factory, alongside some of the best timber tradespeople in the industry, learning how to manufacture premium staircases using modern CNC technology, including our Biesse Rover.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in the factory and on site, working with timber, metal and glass to produce staircases for high-end residential and commercial projects.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

• Manufacture and assemble custom staircase components

• Timber machining, cutting and assembly

• CNC operation and production

• Operating modern workshop machinery

• Reading plans, drawings and shop drawings

• Precision measuring and setting out

• Sanding, finishing and detailed timber work

• Installation of staircases on site

• Working with timber, metal and glass

• Safe workshop and site practices

• How a premium staircase goes from a drawing to a finished installation

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Experience in cabinetmaking, woodworking, carpentry or CNC is an advantage, but not essential.

THE ROLE

You’ll spend your time across both our factory and installation sites, giving you the opportunity to learn the full process rather than just one part of the trade.

In the factory, you’ll learn how to manufacture components accurately using traditional timberworking techniques and modern CNC machinery.

On site, you’ll work alongside our installation team to understand how everything comes together and how to deliver a finished staircase to a high standard.
