Job summary

Australian Wildlife Conservancy is seeking a Botanist to join the vegetation team for applied vegetation ecology and plant identification. This full‑time role involves extensive fieldwork across remote sites and collaboration with NST staff and GIS teams.

The successful candidate will have a degree in botany or ecology, strong field skills, and experience with vegetation monitoring, data management and reporting. AWC values inclusive teamwork and sustainable conservation outcomes.

Qualifications

• Considerable field experience across a variety of Australian vegetation communities.
• Highly developed botanical field skills and ability to distinguish grasses and forbs.
• Experience applying taxonomic keys and validating results against references.
• Vegetation survey and monitoring design with field techniques used in Australia.
• Data management and analysis with Excel and GIS; statistical aptitude or willingness to learn.
• Scientific communication: drafting reports, publications and funding applications.
• Collaboration and teamwork within a diverse group of botanists and ecologists.
• Living and working in remote locations; strong planning, resourcefulness and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Lead field surveys across diverse vegetation communities and habitats.
• Supervise volunteers and interns or small field teams as needed.
• Support GIS mapping, data management and spatial analyses.
• Draft reports and contribute to scientific publications and funding applications.
• Collaborate with regional science teams and other professionals.
