Job description

Job Description: Better and fairer care. Always. St Vincent's has been a leader in Australia's health and aged care landscape for more than 165 years. Since our founders, the Sisters of Charity, opened our first hospital in 1857, our services and nearly 30,000 people have been behind some of Australia's most important medical breakthroughs. We are a microcosm of Australia's health and aged care system and are uniquely positioned to lead and respond to our rapidly changing environment. We are looking for a special kind of person - a St Vincent's kind of person. Someone who puts excellence, compassion, connection and caring for other people at the heart of everything they do.

About the role

Responsible for the day-to-day administration, support and maintenance of business applications and SQL database environments. This includes application support, system maintenance, updates and patching, reporting, troubleshooting, and database administration activities. The role works closely with application vendors, infrastructure teams and business stakeholders to maintain system availability, performance, security and data integrity, while supporting changes, upgrades and ongoing operational requirements.

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Perform SQL Server administration, including database maintenance, backup and recovery, storage management, performance optimisation and high-availability monitoring.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for the application vendor, managing support cases, defects, enhancement requests and SQL Server licensing compliance.
  • Manage development and test environments, including refreshes from production.
  • Configure the application to meet business needs, and manage user access, roles and security profiles, including periodic access reviews.
  • Plan and deliver vendor releases, upgrades, patching, database scripts and schema changes across development, test and production, coordinating testing and user acceptance with business stakeholders.
  • Provide tier-3 support for complex application, integration and database issues, leading root cause analysis and preventative actions for major incidents.
  • Monitor application, interface and database health, proactively identifying performance issues, capacity constraints and risks before they affect critical services.
  • Apply security, privacy and change management controls, including least-privilege access, auditing, encryption and de-identification of non-production data, so patient information is protected at every step.
  • Contribute to automation, disaster recovery testing and business continuity planning to improve operational efficiency and system resilience.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, configurations and operational runbooks, and share knowledge with service desk and application support staff.
  • Work with infrastructure, cloud, security, integration teams and vendors to resolve escalated issues, and participate in an on-call roster and after-hours change windows as required.
  • Work across multidisciplinary teams and business areas, contributing to a high-performance, values-based culture.
  • Support internal and external audits and records retention requirements.

Report writing experience (e.g. SSRS or Power BI).
