Job summary

Gilmour Space Technologies is seeking an AOCS Engineer II (Satellites) near Yatala, Queensland, to design and analyse attitude control systems for satellite platforms. You will size ADCS hardware, characterize sensor performance and participate in simulations and fault management.

The role requires strong C++ or Python software development skills and experience with orbital mechanics. Australian citizenship/PR or visa entitlements are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics or engineering.
• 4+ years in satellite development or equivalent.
• Experience with satellite attitude determination or orbital mechanics.
• Software development in C++ or Python.
• NV1 security clearance eligible preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and analysis of attitude determination and control systems.
• ADCS hardware sizing and performance specs.
• Develop high-fidelity 6 DoF simulations in C++.
• Implement closed-loop pointing, orbit raising, and station keeping.
• Analyze platform stability to reduce instrument jitter.
• Support other duties as required.

How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:

The below is designed to give you an idea of the role you will play. There will be many more exciting and innovative things to do:

• Design and analysis of satellite attitude determination and control systems.
• ADCS hardware performance specification including reaction wheel and torque rod sizing, sensor noise and performance characteristics, and fault management.
• Develop high fidelity 6 degree of freedom single and multi‑vehicle simulation using C++.
• Implement closed loop pointing, orbit raising, and station keeping algorithms.
• Analyze platform stability to ensure low jitter of line‑of‑sight instruments.
• Various first principles derived analyses.
• Other duties as requested by management or leader.

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in physics or an engineering discipline.
• 4+ years of experience in Satellite development or demonstrated competence in current role.
• Software development experience in C++ or Python.
• Experience with satellite attitude determination and/or orbital mechanics.
• NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred.

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Master's degree or PhD in Physics or an Engineering discipline.
• Demonstrated project or professional experience in either satellite attitude determination and control or orbit raising and station keeping.
• Experience with flexible body control, orbital manoeuvring, filtering, fault management, software development, and navigation filtering.
• Strong understanding of classical dynamics, orbital mechanics, modelling and simulation, and software development.
• Cradle to grave development of three axis stabilized spacecraft incorporating momentum, magnetic, and propulsive control.
• Low thrust trajectory optimisation for orbital manoeuvring.
• Capable of identifying and solving complex problems with little to no supervision or direction.
• Passion for advancing the commercial space industry.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start‑up atmosphere.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
