Job summary

Hudson Global Resources (Aust) – Albion QLD is partnering with the Queensland Government for an AO6 Senior Project Officer – Safety & Wellbeing on a 6-month contract with potential extension. The role focuses on WHS governance, risk, assurance and improvement across a busy Safety & Wellbeing team in Brisbane.

You will manage WHS projects end‑to‑end, engage with stakeholders across corporate and operational areas, and contribute to the WHS Management System and related improvements.

Qualifications

• Approximately 3–7 years' relevant WHS experience.
• Experience delivering WHS projects, programs or improvement initiatives.
• Knowledge of contemporary WHS legislation, governance, risk and assurance practices.
• Strong written communication skills, including briefs, reports and project documentation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver WHS projects and improvement initiatives from planning through to implementation.
• Support WHS governance, assurance and risk management activities.
• Progress recommendations and actions arising from existing safety and continuous improvement programs.
• Undertake research, analysis and environmental scanning to identify risks, trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop project plans, briefs, reports, submissions and other documentation.
• Monitor project milestones, actions and deliverables and help keep workstreams progressing.
• Provide well‑considered WHS advice to leaders and stakeholders.
• Build strong relationships across operational, corporate and regional teams.
• Facilitate meetings and working groups and represent the team in relevant forums.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of WHS systems, policies, programs and service delivery.

An exciting opportunity is available for experienced Work Health & Safety professionals to join a high-performing Safety & Wellbeing team within a large Queensland Government department.

We are recruiting for multiple AO6 Senior Project Officer opportunities, supporting important bodies of work across workplace health and safety, governance, assurance, risk management and continuous improvement.

These are hands‑on project roles suited to people who enjoy taking ownership of work, engaging with stakeholders and turning WHS requirements and recommendations into practical outcomes.

The Opportunity Working within the Safety & Wellbeing team, you will contribute to the delivery and continuous improvement of the department's Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS) and support a range of significant safety initiatives.

Current priorities include progressing outstanding recommendations from a major WHS/ISO-related body of work, strengthening risk management, governance and assurance processes, and supporting broader health, safety and wellbeing initiatives across the organisation.

You will:

About You We're looking for practical, collaborative WHS professionals who are comfortable doing the work, not simply providing high-level advice.

You may already be operating at a similar level or be an experienced WHS professional ready to take the next step in your career.

Ideally, you will bring:

• Approximately 3–7 years' relevant WHS experience, although more experienced candidates genuinely seeking a hands‑on contract role are also encouraged to apply.
• Experience delivering WHS projects, programs or improvement initiatives.
• Knowledge of contemporary WHS legislation, governance, risk and assurance practices.
• Strong research, analysis and problem-solving capability.
• Confidence engaging with stakeholders at different levels of an organisation.
• Strong written communication skills, including briefs, reports and project documentation.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and progress multiple pieces of work.
• A collaborative, down‑to‑earth approach and willingness to contribute as part of a close‑knit team.

A Certificate IV or higher in Workplace Health and Safety is highly desirable, as is experience or qualifications in workplace investigations.
