Job summary

Australian Antarctic Division in Kingston, TAS, seeks a Traverse Capability Project Officer to plan, deliver and sustain Australia's inland over-snow traverse capability and mobile inland station operations.

You will work with the permanent head office team, seasonal expeditioners and vendors to deliver short- to long-term season planning and implementation, ensuring safe operations and alignment with science logistics.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in remote, extreme environments.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Proven experience in logistics coordination and operational planning.
• Commitment to team safety and safety culture.
• Experience with mobile machinery, plant equipment, or site operations.

Responsibilities

• Build and sustain relationships to facilitate maintenance of Traverse and Inland Station assets.
• Coordinate pre-season work packages and post-season actions.
• Promote a safe workplace and mentor staff.
• Conduct procurement processes in line with government rules.
• Manage procurement lifecycles and engage with suppliers.
• Assist capability design and fleet maintenance in extreme environments.
• Maintain awareness of traverse developments and literature.
• Provide field team support and coordinate future capability planning (3–5 years).
• Coordinate ordering of supplies and cargo consignments.
• Support expeditioner training and onboarding.
• Engage with science partners to coordinate deliverables.
