Job summary

The Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is seeking a skilled Carpenter for on-site work in Brisbane/Antarctic stations. You will perform carpentry, painting, plastering, tiling, floor coverings, glazing and steel erection, ensuring infrastructure and field huts are safe and well-maintained.

You will report to the Station Trades Supervisor and the Infrastructure Team in Kingston, contribute to capital building projects, and participate in predeparture

Qualifications

• Trade Certificate – Certificate III in Carpentry or Carpenter/Joiner.
• Driver’s Licence – Current, unrestricted “C” class (manual) Australian driver’s licence.
• Citizenship – Australian citizens as per PS Act 1999; NZ citizens/work rights considered if no Australian applicants.
• White Card – Issued after May 2009.
• CPCCDE3014A or CPCCDE3028 – Remove Non-Friable Asbestos.
• Valid Passport – Passport/visa valid at least 6 months beyond planned stay.
• HLTAID0011 – First Aid valid 18+ months beyond start.
• HLTAID010 – Basic Emergency Life Support valid 18+ months beyond start.
• HLTAID009 – CPR valid 6 months beyond start.

Responsibilities

• Maintain station infrastructure and field huts across carpentry, painting, plastering, tiling, floor coverings, glazing and steel erection.
• Mix and pour concrete and manage workshop operations.
• Complete new Capital Building projects on site.
• Report to the Station Trades Supervisor and Infrastructure Team on station duties.
