The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action seeks an Animal Health Officer to join the Animal Health and Welfare Unit in Colac, Victoria. You will contribute to disease surveillance, certification, and emergency preparedness across the livestock sector.

As a regulatory position, you will conduct investigations and appear in court under acts such as the Livestock Disease Control Act and related legislation.

Formación

• Tertiary degree in Science, Agricultural Science or Natural Resource Management (or related) is required.
• Experience liaising with government departments, farmers and industry reps.
• Knowledge of Victorian livestock industries, husbandry, diseases and marketability.
• Strong written and verbal communication for briefs, letters and reports.

Responsabilidades

• Manage animal welfare risks and disease surveillance.
• Oversee Domestic and Export certification and National Livestock Identification System auditing.
• Prepare and respond to animal disease outbreaks and welfare issues.
• Collaborate with internal staff and external stakeholders including police and industry bodies.
• Conduct investigations and appearances in court under relevant acts.
