Job summary

Victorian Department of Energy and Climate Action is seeking an Animal Health Officer to join the Animal Health and Welfare Unit. The role focuses on delivering major animal health projects including surveillance, audit activities, and enforcement of livestock-related laws to protect Victoria's markets.

The position is fixed-term for 12 months with hybrid work options at Leongatha or Ellinbank. Applicants must have a suitable science degree and experience liaising with government and industry

Qualifications

• A tertiary degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Science, Natural Resource Management (or related) is required.
• Experience liaising and negotiating with government departments, farmers, livestock agents and industry representatives.

Responsibilities

• Deliver disease surveillance across Victoria's livestock sectors.
• Assist with livestock legislation and enforcement management.
• Support emergency preparedness and response for animal health incidents.
• Oversee traceability and auditing activities to maintain market access.
