X-Team International is hiring a senior Android engineer for a major Australian bank project. You will develop an offline-first Android app using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and a SQLite persistence layer, ensuring resilience during backend slowdowns. Expect 2–4 weeks onsite in Melbourne to align with the team and gain context.
You will work with gRPC/Protobuf, MVVM or MVI, and modern security practices, with opportunities to influence Open Banking features and cross-team collaboration.
Join a team spread across the world and enjoy true location freedom while collaborating with talented engineers everywhere.
Work with top brands
Riot Games, Fox, Coinbase, Epic Games, and so much more.

Enjoy flexible schedules, wellness stipends, and support to make sure you're thriving both professionally and personally.
You'll join a mobile engineering squad at one of Australia's largest banks, working on two priority projects: making the Android app resilient when backend services go down, and building Open Banking features that let customers link accounts from other banks.
The core of the work is an offline-first architecture. When backend APIs slow down or fail, the app keeps working instead of freezing or showing an empty screen. You'll build it in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose with a SQLite persistence layer, using networking and database code generated from gRPC definitions. Millions of customers use this app.
The contract runs 6 to 8 months. Expect the first 2 to 4 weeks onsite in Melbourne, to get context and share knowledge with the team.
Production experience building offline-first apps with SQLite, including local caching, schema migrations, and thread-safe data synchronization
Kotlin Coroutines and Flow, used to keep UI rendering separate from background network work
Hands-on experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and automated code generation on Android
Clean Architecture, MVVM or MVI, and dependency injection with Hilt or Dagger
Android security fundamentals: Android Keystore or EncryptedSharedPreferences, certificate pinning, and OAuth2
Able to work onsite in Melbourne for the first 2 to 4 weeks
You prefer strongly typed contracts over loose JSON, and you like it when tooling generates the boilerplate for you.
You treat security and penetration test findings as part of the build, not a review at the end.
You share context easily, with a new team onsite in the first weeks and with iOS colleagues after that.
May change based on various factors (role, profile completeness, etc).
