Job summary

SMBC Group is seeking an Analyst to Senior Analyst in the Structured Finance Department in Sydney. The role focuses on detailed credit and financial analysis of Project and Structured Finance transactions, including modelling and preparing credit submissions with the team.

You will support senior team members with pitch materials, research for debt and advisory transactions, and client interactions, helping to drive effective execution across local and APAC regions.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of project finance or structured finance experience, ideally in banking
• Strong numeracy and financial modelling skills
• Thorough understanding of banking practices and credit processes

Responsibilities

• Undertaking detailed credit and financial analysis of Project & Structured Finance transactions.
• Generating detailed analysis using a range of models to provide comprehensive financial information and credit analysis.
• Preparing credit papers in co-operation with senior managers to present to Credit & Underwriting Departments both locally and globally.
• Preparing presentations and reports on behalf of senior managers for presentation to external and internal parties.
• Collect necessary data and information to support marketing and execution of transactions.
• Assisting in enhancing SMBC's reputation as a preferred Project/Structured Finance Bank.

The primary responsibility of this role is to undertake detailed credit and financial analysis of Project and Structured Finance transactions. This will include detailed financial modelling and sensitivity analysis and preparation of credit submissions jointly with other team members. The position will support the marketing activities of senior team members by way of preparation of pitch documentation and performing industry and client research both for debt and advisory related transactions. You will be responsible for the following:

• Undertaking detailed credit analysis and financial analysis of complex-Project & Structured Finance transactions.
• Generating detailed analysis using a range of models to provide comprehensive financial information and credit analysis.
• Preparing credit papers in co-operation with senior managers to present to Credit & Underwriting Departments both locally, Asia Pacific and globally with Head Office.
• Preparing presentations and reports on behalf of senior managers for presentation to external and internal parties.
• Collect necessary data and information to support marketing and execution of transactions.
• Enhancing reputation of SMBC through efficient execution of multiple deals and efficient time allocation.
• To ensure that our risk management frameworks and functions support our business. Supporting senior managers on new business opportunities through analysis and review of financial information.
• Preparing credit papers in conjunction with senior managers to present to CDAPD.
• Assist in enhancing the reputation of SMBC as a preferred Project/ Structured Finance Bank.
• Other duties as required by SMBC.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• 3-5 years of project finance, structured finance, or corporate finance experience ideally with a Bank or Financial Institution in an origination team.
• Thorough understanding of banking practices and processes of the role of credit within a bank.
• High level of numeracy and strong financial analysis skills, and the ability to conduct financial modelling.
• Strong financial & analytical skills.
• Sound knowledge of financial products.
