Job summary

Boeing Defence Australia is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the BCS AIR6500 program. You will help design, build, and scale the MSM application powering the AIR6500 project, evolving both front-end UI and back-end logic for robust, secure software across the full stack.

The role offers a hybrid in-office/work-from-home arrangement with opportunities to contribute to diverse defence projects and collaborate within a flexible, outcome-focused team culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience in Defence or complex engineering environments is preferred.
  • Backend or frontend software language knowledge (Python, JavaScript, C) and UI design are desirable.
  • Experience building secure applications in a Linux environment.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of networking and communications software focusing on security, scalability and performance.
  • Design, integrate, test software and hardware systems.
  • Write code to solve complex problems and participate in code reviews.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to support the Battlespace Communication System (BCS) AIR6500 Program. BCS is a next-generation networking product that serves as the centrepiece for multiple projects and campaigns. Combining both developmental and off-the-shelf hardware and software, BCS provides world-leading communications capability for ADF personnel. It can be rapidly deployed anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution customized for diverse mission needs.

This role will see you applying your software skills across the full stack to design, build, and scale the Mission System Manager (MSM) application powering the AIR6500 project. By evolving the user interface (front-end) and robust core logic (back-end) of BCS MSM platform.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of robust networking and communications software with a focus on cyber security, scalability and performance.
  • Design, development, integration and test of integrated hardware and software systems.
  • Write code to solve complex problems.
  • Review pull requests, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse team, in a conscientious and inclusive way.
Experience/Qualifications
  • Must be an Australian citizen eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance.

  • A tertiary qualification in engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience within Defence or complex engineering project environments.
  • Backend or frontend software language and open-source package knowledge (Python, java-script, C programming, and UI design) are highly desirable.

  • Ability to take part in in all aspects of the software development lifecycle with an agile mindset.
  • IP networking protocols and implementation of network security.
