Job summary

Boeing Defence Australia is hiring a network and systems administrator to join the Battlespace Communication System (BCS) program in Brisbane. You will manage Linux-based systems, provisioning, monitoring, and documentation, while leading network planning and deployment in a collaborative agile environment.

The role requires Australian citizenship and strong skills in Linux, virtualization, IP networking, and commercial networking gear.

Qualifications

• Australian Citizenship required for defence security requirements.
• Strong knowledge of Linux, system administration, virtualization and IP networking.
• Solid experience with IP networking: routing, NAT, IPv4/IPv6, subnets, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VLAN/VxLAN.

Responsibilities

• Perform Linux systems administration: user accounts, provisioning, inventory tracking, monitoring.
• Lead planning, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of a complex networking environment.
• Create and maintain infrastructure and software development environment documentation.
• Contribute to regular software deployment to the Mission System Test and Integration Facility.
• Engage with software and systems engineers to improve development environments.
• Participate in ad-hoc testing in Systems Integration Facility.
• Contribute to environment automation using infrastructure as code.
• Collaborate in a highly agile environment; review pull requests and provide feedback.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate with DevOps and development staff.
• Communicate and collaborate with a diverse team in a conscientious and inclusive manner.

The Opportunity

We are recruting for a network and systems administration professional to join Boeing's Battlespace Communication System (BCS) Program. BCS is a next generation networking product that is the centerpiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for users. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs.

Responsibilities

• Perform Linux systems administration tasks such as user account management, workstation and server provisioning, inventory tracking, systems monitoring and triaging
• Leading the planning, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of all aspects of a complex networking environment
• Create and maintain infrastructure and software development environment documentation
• Actively participate in regular software deployment to the Mission System Test and Integration Facility
• Proactive engagement with all stakeholders, and software and systems engineers to continually improve the software development environment
• Conduct ad-hoc testing within the Systems Integration Facility as required
• Contribute to environment automation using infrastructure as code concepts
• Active participation in a highly collaborative environment using agile concepts and methodologies
• Review pull requests, and provide constructive feedback to DevOps and development staff
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback
• The ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse team, in a conscientious and inclusive manner

Experience/Qualifications

Essential:

• Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
• Knowledge and proven experience with the Linux operating system, system administration, virtualization and networking / IP stack.
• Solid experience with IP networks, including routing principles, NAT, IPv4, IPv6, subnets, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VLAN / VxLAN.

Desirable:

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering or Information Technology discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience within defence or complex engineering project environments is desirable.
• Experience with administering commercial networking products such as CISCO, Juniper, Palo Alto.
• Knowledge of or experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare, KVM and Libvirt.
• Knowledge of or experience with software languages such as Python, Ansible, Bash, Go are highly desirable.
• Knowledge of or experience with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket
• Knowledge of or experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, Artifactory, Gitlab
• An ability to develop and maintain documentation and reports related to managing IT systems and network topologies
• Sound knowledge of all aspects of the software development lifecycle with an agile mindset
• A high level of organizational and time management skills
• Well organised with the ability to multitask and perform under pressure
• Strong interpersonal skills with excellent communication and documentation capabilities
