Job summary

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is seeking an Artificial Intelligence Cyber Security and Controls Engineer in Canberra to lead the strategic application of AI and security controls across the department. The role requires senior expertise in AI and cyber security and strong stakeholder engagement to translate complex concepts into practical controls.

Initial 12-month contract with potential extensions; onsite 5 days per week with some flexibility.

Qualifications

• Active NV1 clearance is required.
• Experience applying AI-related security controls in high-risk environments.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and ability to translate technical concepts into policy and practical controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI governance and AI security control frameworks across DFAT.
• Assess AI solutions against security, privacy, ethics and compliance requirements.
• Design and implement AI controls within Microsoft 365 and related platforms.
• Develop security standards and procedures for AI technologies.
