Job summary

Cipher Recruitment is seeking an AI & Automation Engineer in Sydney CBD to drive the expansion of AI capabilities using Copilot Studio, Power Platform, and automation. The role blends hands-on development with business-facing communication to deliver practical outcomes.

You will work in a growing IT team, with a hybrid 3 days in the office / 2 days from home schedule after probation, and a strong focus on Copilot Studio adoption and internal automation initiatives.

AI & Automation Engineer (Power Platform & Copilot Studio) | Sydney CBD | $140K–$180K + Super | Permanent Full-Time

We’re working with a growing Australian organisation that is investing heavily in AI, automation and the Microsoft ecosystem, and they’re looking for an AI & Automation Engineer to join their expanding technology team.

This is an expansion role, working side-by-side with an existing AI capability. The organisation already has strong adoption of Copilot, Copilot Studio, Power Platform and AI, and is now looking to take that capability further — including building internal agents and automating business processes.

The Role

You’ll be hands-on, working closely with the business to identify opportunities, build solutions and turn complex technology into practical business outcomes.

A major part of the role will be Microsoft Copilot Studio — this is a must-have.

We’re looking for someone who understands not just the technology, but what can be built in Copilot Studio, how to build it, and how to explain it to people who aren't technical.

You’ll be someone who can take:

“Here’s what the technology does”

…and turn it into:

“Here’s how this solves your business problem.”

What We’re Looking For

• Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio — MUST HAVE (Questions will be asked on what is in the product, how you do things in the product)
• Experience building AI agents, automation and intelligent workflows
• Strong Power Platform experience, particularly Power Automate and Power Apps
• The ability to break down complex technical concepts and explain them in plain English
• Strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to translate technology into business language
• Experience delivering AI/automation solutions in a business environment
• 6+ months of hands-on experience with the relevant technologies is expected, with deeper experience highly valued
• Azure AI / Azure AI Foundry is desirable but not essential
• Experience across either Power Platform or AI will be considered, provided you have strong hands-on capability
• A highly adaptable mindset — priorities can change quickly, so resilience and flexibility are important

The Person

The team is relatively young, with most people in their mid-20s, so adaptability, energy and a willingness to collaborate are important.

We’re looking for someone who is proactive, comfortable with change and able to work in a reactive environment where priorities can shift.

The Technology

You’ll be working across a growing Microsoft environment, including:

• Power Platform
• Power Automate
• Power Apps
• AI agents and internal automation
• Data and business systems

The Team

The IT function is growing and currently consists of 5 people including the Head of IT, across AI & Automation, Data, IT Systems Support and Digital.

You’ll report directly to the Head of IT and work closely with business stakeholders across the organisation.

Interview Process

1 Microsoft Teams interview — technical + behavioural, including a capability/case study assessment

2 In-person interview — behavioural and cultural fit
