Job summary

Seniors Rights Service is seeking an Aged Care Advocate to empower older people across New South Wales. You’ll provide vital information, education and support to navigate aged care services and rights with confidence.

You will work in a dedicated team delivering personalised advocacy, addressing concerns, improving communication with providers, and upholding rights. The role offers hybrid arrangements and generous leave, with a competitive salary of $99,294 plus super and salary packaging.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent education in social work, psychology or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Sound knowledge of the NSW aged care system and familiarity with community resources.
  • Strong commitment to human rights, social justice and diversity.
  • Experience engaging with people who have lived experience of trauma.
  • Willing to register and authenticate as an advocate agent for My Aged Care portal.

Responsibilities

  • Listening to and supporting older people and their representatives to make informed decisions via phone and face-to-face contact.
  • Advocating on behalf of clients with aged care service providers.
  • Advocating to uphold and safeguard clients' rights and ensure appropriate responses.
  • Managing information and advocacy cases using Salesforce database.
  • Referring clients to other services including the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
  • Delivering information sessions and developing information resources for clients.
  • Participating in local events, campaigns and promoting Seniors Rights Service.

Role Responsibilities
As an Aged Care Advocate, you'll be responsible for:
  • Listening to and supporting older people who are receiving or seeking aged care services, as well as their representatives, to make informed decisions through telephone and face-to-face support.
  • Advocating on behalf of clients in response to concerns raised with aged care service providers.
  • Advocating on behalf of older people receiving or seeking to receive aged care services to ensure their rights are upheld and responded to appropriately.
  • Managing information and advocacy cases using Salesforce database.
  • Referring clients to other services including the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
  • Providing education and information sessions to aged care recipients within Residential Aged Care.
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining appropriate information resources for clients.
  • Participating in seniors' events, information days, displays and exhibitions in the local area.
  • Contributing to promotional campaigns targeting identified priority groups.
  • Participating in the maintenance and development of local networks and relationships to promote Seniors Rights Service and expand its reach.
  • Contributing to identification and monitoring of systemic issues arising for people receiving or seeking to receive aged care services and/or their representatives.
  • Travelling intrastate for work as required.
  • Degree or equivalent education in social work, psychology or related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the aged care system in NSW and familiarity with community resources for additional support
  • Strong commitment to human rights, social justice and diversity
  • Experience engaging with people who have lived experience of trauma
  • Previous experience in applying advocacy that champions client voice and agency
  • Be willing to register and authenticate as an advocate agent for professional use of the My Aged Care online portal.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering workshops and presentations
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills in negotiation, teamwork, conflict resolution, decision making and problem solving.
  • Understanding of ageism and how it effects older people and their rights
  • Excellent computer skills, fluent in Microsoft Office 365 and database management
  • Willing to use your own registered and comprehensively insured vehicle, where you will be reimbursed for work related mileage claims
  • Willingness to obtain an annual flu vaccination and hold a valid National Criminal History check and NSW driver's license as a condition of employment
