Job summary

Migas Apprentices & Trainees in Melbourne seeks a qualified Mechanical Maintenance Technician for the afternoon shift at a steel-processing site. You will perform preventative and breakdown maintenance on conveyors, gearboxes, pumps and hydraulic systems, with a focus on reliability and safety.

The role requires a trade qualification, fault-finding skills and the ability to read drawings; you’ll work with electricians and the maintenance team to keep production running smoothly.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade completed.
• Experience in preventative and breakdown maintenance within manufacturing/steel processing.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maintenance documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned preventive maintenance on conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, motors and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Respond to production breakdowns, diagnose faults and repair components to minimise downtime.
• Fault-find on conveyors, roller systems and material-handling equipment.
• MIG and stick welding, fabrication and repairs to guards and frames.
• Assist with equipment upgrades, installations, and shutdown work.
• Maintain routine plant inspections and contribute to root-cause analysis.
