Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient gastroenterology and hepatology care.
  • Attend endoscopy lists and ambulatory clinics.
  • Participate in quality and safety meetings and journal club.
  • Attend weekly clinical, radiology and pathology meetings.
  • Assess and manage new referrals within 24 hours.

What you'll be doing

These are gastroenterology advanced training positions for current trainees who are interested in applying for a specialty year focusing on hepatology. Trainees applying for these positions should have completed at least two years of gastroenterology advanced training prior to 2026.


This position may also be suitable for current gastroenterology trainees.


The JMO Advanced Trainee is responsible for inpatient care, endoscopy lists, ambulatory care clinics, quality and safety meetings, weekly journal club and weekly clinical, radiology and pathology meetings. During training in gastroenterology and hepatology, the Advanced Trainee will have various responsibilities including managing general gastroenterology and hepatology inpatients, consultations and assessing all new referrals within 24 hours or less if required.


Requirements


  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

  • At least 1 core year of advanced training in gastroenterology.

  • Successful completion of the examination requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and eligible to undertake subspecialty training in Gastroenterology in Australia.

  • Excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement.

  • Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.

  • Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and self-education, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
