Job summary

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies seeks an experienced ADAS Systems Engineer to design, develop, and validate core system architectures for next‑gen driver‑assistance and autonomy platforms in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment.

The role requires deep expertise in ADAS sensors, actuators, HW‑SW architectures, vehicle motion controls, and simulation platforms like MATLAB/Simulink/SIL/HIL, with a focus on ISO 26262 Functional Safety and rigorous validation across MIL/SIL/HIL levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5-7+ years of experience in ADAS, robotics, or automotive controls development.
• Strong foundation in classical and modern control theory (stability analysis, state-space methods, MPC).
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow for modeling and simulation.
• Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics (longitudinal and lateral).
• Experience with programming in Python / C / C++ / Rust.
• Familiarity with systems engineering principles and tools (JAMA, DOORS, SysML/UML).
• Experience with validation efforts at MIL, SIL, HIL, Component, Vehicle.
• Experience performing DFMEA and/or STPA.
• Excellent cause and effect analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Understand the lifecycle management of comprehensive system and software requirements for Level 2 through Level 5 ADAS and autonomous driving systems.
• Translate high-level functional objectives into granular, testable engineering specifications for state machines, control algorithms, and overall system dynamics.
• Engage in deep cross-functional collaboration with HMI/UX, functional safety, cybersecurity, and product management to integrate multi-disciplinary requirements.
• Utilize MATLAB, Simulink, and advanced simulation environments (SIL/HIL) to iterate, tune, and validate complex algorithm performance against defined criteria.
• Drive the development of Functional Safety work products in strict alignment with ISO 26262 industry standards.
• Partner with validation teams to perform root‑cause analysis, debug system issues, and refine design iterations based on empirical data.
