Job summary

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies seeks an experienced ADAS Systems Engineer to design, develop, and validate core system architectures for next‑gen driver‑assistance and autonomy platforms in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment.

The role requires deep expertise in ADAS sensors, actuators, HW‑SW architectures, vehicle motion controls, and simulation platforms like MATLAB/Simulink/SIL/HIL, with a focus on ISO 26262 Functional Safety and rigorous validation across MIL/SIL/HIL levels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in ADAS, robotics, or automotive controls development.
  • Strong foundation in classical and modern control theory (stability analysis, state-space methods, MPC).
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow for modeling and simulation.
  • Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics (longitudinal and lateral).
  • Experience with programming in Python / C / C++ / Rust.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles and tools (JAMA, DOORS, SysML/UML).
  • Experience with validation efforts at MIL, SIL, HIL, Component, Vehicle.
  • Experience performing DFMEA and/or STPA.
  • Excellent cause and effect analysis skills.

  • Drive the development of Functional Safety work products in strict alignment with ISO 26262 industry standards.
  • Partner with validation teams to perform root‑cause analysis, debug system issues, and refine design iterations based on empirical data.

Role Summary

As an ADAS Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role within a dynamic, cross functional team, designing, developing and validating core system architectures for our next-generation driver-assistance and autonomy platforms. We are seeking a forward thinking and highly skilled systems engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses deep expertise in ADAS sensors, actuators, HW-SW architectures, vehicle motion controls, and vehicle simulation platforms.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • [5-7]+ years of experience in ADAS, robotics, or automotive controls development.

  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow for modeling and simulation.
  • Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics (longitudinal and lateral).
  • Experience with programming in Python / C / C++ / Rust
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles and tools (e.g., JAMA, DOORS, SysML/UML).
  • Experience with validation efforts at different test levels (MIL, SIL, HIL, Component, Vehicle)
  • Experience performing DFMEA and /or STPA.
  • Excellent cause and effect analysis skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in applying AI/ML techniques to engineering workflows. Specific experience with LLMs, NLP, or generative AI is a major plus.
  • Proven experience taking an ADAS feature from concept to production.
  • Experience with ADAS Simulators (CARLA or proprietary tools) while integrating motion controls
