Job description

St Pius X College is seeking to appoint an energetic Acting Head of Junior School skilled in contemporary education practices. The Acting Head of the Junior School leads the Junior School community of students, staff and parents in its pursuit of excellence in all aspects of religious education and formation, teaching and learning, pastoral care, administration and the cocurriculum in the Junior School. As a member of the College Leadership Team the Acting Head of the Junior School actively participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of strategies, policies and processes to secure the College as a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition. The Head of the Junior School is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day life of the Junior School.

This is a full-time temporary position with a start date at either the commencement of 2027 or during Term 4 2026. Remuneration is at a Proficient 5, plus Assistant Principal Allowance of $54,731 per annum (current) and a time release of 0.8 FTE.

The successful applicant will:
  • Be committed to and supportive of the Mission of Catholic Schools with specific reference to the Edmund Rice ethos and tradition of the College
  • Exhibit a high standard of competence, professionalism, organisational proficiency and enthusiasm
  • have successful experience in a leadership position in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrate success in leading learning: curriculum, assessment, moderation, data‑informed practice and reporting in a primary/Junior School context.
  • Ensure assessment and inquiry practices are compliant with NESA expectations and reflect evidence‑based pedagogy, inquiry learning and differentiation.
  • have (or be working towards) post graduate qualifications in Education, Leadership, Religious Education, Theology or equivalent;
  • Have the ability to respond to and support Junior School staff on a wide range of educational issues
  • Have the ability to relate to boys and a practical knowledge of boys’ education issues and initiatives
  • Possess excellent consultation, negotiation and people management skills
  • Maintain positive working relationships and confidentiality
  • Be an innovative and engaging classroom practitioner
  • Effectively integrate technology in teaching and learning
  • Participate in the cocurricular program of the school
  • Be highly organised with excellent attention to detail and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Have the ability to meet deadlines, prioritise tasks and achieve results in a timely manner.
