Job summary

Carey Group in Cairns is seeking an accountant with a few years of experience to own client work spanning business services, taxation and advisory. You’ll be the genuine point of contact for business owners, professionals and family groups, guiding them to better financial decisions.

You’ll work mainly from Cairns within a multi-disciplinary Queensland team, benefiting from mentoring, career progression and flexible hybrid arrangements.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years' experience in Business Services, Tax or Audit.
• Degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline.
• Strong technical accounting and taxation knowledge.
• CA or CPA qualified, or currently undertaking studies, is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Preparing financial statements and income tax returns
• Assisting clients with taxation, compliance and business advisory matters
• Building strong relationships with clients and becoming a trusted point of contact
• Supporting clients with business planning and growth opportunities
• Working alongside Managers and Partners on more complex client matters
• Identifying opportunities to add value beyond compliance

As an accountant with a few years behind you, you’ll be encouraged to take ownership of your work and make the most of working with a diverse range of clients across business services, taxation and advisory. At Carey Group, client contact isn’t something you wait years for.

You will be a genuine point of contact for your clients: business owners, primary producers, professionals and family groups. You will guide them to make better financial decisions and meet their accounting and taxation obligations while developing your own technical and advisory skills.

While you’ll be based in Cairns, you’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary team across Queensland, with specialists in accounting, tax, assurance and financial planning. You’ll get the breadth of experience and the clear pathways you need to grow your career.

What you’ll do

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing financial statements and income tax returns
• Assisting clients with taxation, compliance and business advisory matters
• Building strong relationships with clients and becoming a trusted point of contact
• Supporting clients with business planning and growth opportunities
• Working alongside Managers and Partners on more complex client matters
• Identifying opportunities to add value beyond compliance

What you’ll bring

• At least 3 year's experience in Business Services, Tax or Audit
• A degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
• CA or CPA qualified, or currently undertaking studies, is highly regarded
• Experience with Xero, MYOB or similar accounting software is beneficial
• A team-first attitude and a desire to contribute to a positive workplace culture
