Job summary

COPE is seeking an accounting professional to support financial and management reporting during a maternity leave fixed-term period of up to 11 months. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will help with daily tasks, month-end close, and process improvements across a national business with 14 depots.

The role requires an accounting/finance degree, CPA qualification (completed or in progress), and 2–4 years of experience, with strong Excel skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Accounting/Finance degree required.
• CPA qualification completed or in progress.
• 2–4 years in a similar accounting role.
• Strong Excel and Office skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience with Dynamics 365 (advantageous).
• Experience in medium–large organisations, ideally transport/logistics.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily accounting tasks and general ledger entries.
• Reconcile bank statements and maintain records.
• Support month-end close and P&L reporting.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and data entry.
• Assist with ad hoc projects and process improvements.
• Handle accounts payable queries and documentation.

About the Role:

This is a fixed-term position covering maternity leave for up to 11 months. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in supporting the financial and management reporting functions of a national business with 14 depots across Australia. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, contributing to process improvements, and supporting operational and financial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily accounting tasks, including general ledger entries and record keeping
• Reconcile bank statements and ensure the accuracy of financial records
• Maintain and organise financial files and documentation
• Manage data entry and ensure proper filing of financial information
• Assist with month-end close activities and preparation of monthly profit and loss reporting
• Assist with balance sheet reconciliations
• Respond to and resolve accounts payable queries
• Support ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives

Skills & Experience:

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

• A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
• CPA qualification (completed or working towards completion)
• 2-4 years' experience in a similar accounting role
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (advantageous)
• Experience working in medium to large organisations, ideally within the transport or logistics industry
