Job description

Accountant – Take the Next Step in Your Career

At BYS Finance, we provide end-to-end accounting and management accounting services to a diverse client base across a range of industries, from leading brands to small and medium-sized businesses.

We are looking for a motivated and proactive Accountant who is ready to broaden their practical experience, take greater responsibility for client accounts and continue developing their accounting career.

You may be a recent accounting graduate with some practical experience, or already working in an accounting role and looking for your next challenge, broader exposure and the opportunity to take on greater responsibility.

Working across a diverse portfolio of clients, you will gain hands‑on experience across a variety of accounting functions. Depending on your existing experience, this may include accounts payable and receivable, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, client and supplier queries and other day‑to‑day accounting activities.

As your experience and capability grow, there will be opportunities to broaden your responsibilities into areas such as month‑end accounting, GST, payroll, trial balance and financial reporting.

About you

We are looking for someone with strong accounting fundamentals, attention to detail and a genuine desire to learn, develop and take increasing ownership of their work.

You will be organised and comfortable working across multiple clients and priorities, with the ability to communicate confidently and professionally with clients, suppliers and colleagues.

You will bring aptitude, initiative, a willingness to learn and a genuine desire to progress your accounting career.

You will enjoy working in an environment where you can broaden your knowledge, gain exposure to different businesses and accounting requirements, and take on greater responsibility as your skills develop.

Key responsibilities

Your responsibilities will vary depending on your experience and will develop as your skills and confidence grow. Working across a portfolio of clients, you will be involved in areas including:

  • Processing and managing accounts payable and receivable across multiple clients and entities.
  • Preparing and issuing sales invoices and monitoring customer receipts and outstanding accounts.
  • Reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, supplier statements and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Processing supplier invoices, staff expenses and payment runs, including transactions in both Australian and foreign currencies.
  • Liaising directly with clients, suppliers and other stakeholders to resolve day‑to‑day accounting queries.
  • Maintaining accurate accounting records across Xero and other client‑specific platforms.
  • Assisting with month‑end processes, reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Supporting GST, payroll, trial balance and year‑end processes as your experience and responsibilities develop.
  • Assisting with year‑end and audit requirements.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and the quality and efficiency of financial information.
Skills & experience

We are interested in your accounting foundations, aptitude and willingness to learn — not simply the particular accounting systems you have used.

Experience with Xero, MYOB or other accounting and business systems will be well regarded. More importantly, you should be comfortable using technology, confident in learning new systems and interested in finding better and more efficient ways of working.

You will have a relevant accounting qualification, with practical accounting experience being highly regarded.

We value people who are curious, adaptable and prepared to ask questions, learn and take on new challenges.

At BYS Finance, you will have the opportunity to build broad, practical accounting experience by working with a diverse range of clients and industries.

Rather than being limited to one area of accounting, you will be exposed to different businesses, systems and accounting requirements, with opportunities to broaden your responsibilities as your knowledge and confidence develop.

You will work as part of an experienced and supportive team where initiative, curiosity and a willingness to learn are valued, and where you can progressively take greater ownership of your work.

If you are looking for an opportunity to take the next step in your accounting career, broaden your experience and continue developing as an accountant, we would like to hear from you.
