Job summary

Barcaldine Regional Council in Central West Queensland is seeking an Accountant to join the Finance team and support Council's financial projects and strategies. This role offers exposure to a broad range of financial activities within a small regional council environment, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness in reporting.

The successful candidate will have tertiary qualifications in Commerce/Accounting, strong time management and communication skills, and a commitment to meeting council

Qualifications

  • Completion of a National Criminal History Check to Council's Satisfaction.
  • Completion of a Pre-Employment Medical Examination to Council's Satisfaction.
  • Current Queensland class 'C' Driver Licence.
  • Proven experience in financial management and the preparation of financial reports.
  • Demonstrated success in contributing to a finance team, balancing competing priorities, and achieving outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, prioritise tasks, and problem-solve in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial data in a clear and non-technical manner.

Job description

Location: This position is based in Barcaldine, with regional work and travel as required.

Classification Level: Minimum Level 7.1 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award - State 2017.

Wage:Minimum base salary $103,615.72 per annum + 12% Superannuation Contribution.

Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly.

Hours of Work:72.5 Hours over a 9-day fortnight.

Leave:Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% loading. Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

The Role

As an Accountant, you will be an integral part of Council's Finance team supporting Council's Financial projects and strategies.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further their professional career and gain a breadth of exposure within a small Regional Council environment.

  • Completion of a National Criminal History Check to Council's Satisfaction
  • Completion of a Pre-Employment Medical Examination to Council's Satisfaction
  • Formal Tertiary qualification in Commerce, Business, Accounting, or a related field, and/or significant experience in accounting roles within a mid-to-large sized organisation
  • Current Queensland class 'C' Driver Licence
  • Proven experience in financial management and the preparation of fiancial reports
  • Demonstrated success in contributing to a finance team, balancing competing priorities, and achieving outcomesDemonstrated ability to effectively manage time, prioritise tasks, and problem-solve in a fast-paced team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial data in a clear and non-technical manner

Highly regarded, but not required

  • Previous experience in local government or related public sector (desirable but not mandatory)
