Cairns Regional Council is seeking an Asset Accountant to manage the Asset Register, depreciation updates and revaluations, ensuring accurate reporting for monthly and annual financial statements.
You will capitalise assets, reconcile with the General Ledger and support budgets, forecasts and ABS reporting. Strong Excel skills and accounting standards knowledge are essential for this role in Cairns.
Salary Range: $87,255.06 - $100,358.57 per annum

Help embed a “we’re here to help” culture across Finance by delivering high‑quality asset accounting advice and end‑to‑end support for Council’s asset register, reporting, depreciation, revaluations and compliance.
Maintain and operate the Asset Register, including categorisation, monthly depreciation updates, and processing additions, disposals and revaluations
Capitalise completed capital works, capital purchases and contributed assets in line with policies and approvals
Deliver timely financial reporting on property, plant and equipment; prepare asset accounting inputs for monthly and annual financial statements
Reconcile Work in Progress and the Asset Register to the General Ledger each month
Assist with asset depreciation budgets and scheduled periodic reviews; prepare forecasts for revaluations and depreciation
Support Council’s asset revaluation program and liaise with internal/external auditors
Partner with internal customers and suppliers on asset accounting matters; prepare relevant ABS returns
Ensure accurate recordkeeping and compliance with legislation, standards, policies and procedures
Bachelor of Commerce/Business or relevant tertiary qualification
Experience in a relevant finance role with a sound understanding of accounting standards
Strong systems mindset and confidence working with accounting systems and Excel/Word (advanced Excel highly regarded)
High numerical and analytical capability with excellent attention to detail
Clear written and verbal communication skills; collaborative and adaptable team player with strong stakeholder engagement skills
