Job summary

Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria seeks an Aboriginal Wellbeing Officer to provide cultural and practical support to Aboriginal prisoners and to liaise with stakeholders to promote successful reintegration.

The role operates within Corrections Victoria, supporting the wellbeing of Aboriginal Victorians and contributing to equitable outcomes. A VPS Grade 3 position includes a sign-on incentive and opportunities for ongoing professional impact.

Qualifications

• Understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community and issues.
• Ability to communicate sensitively with Aboriginal communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide cultural and practical support for Aboriginal prisoners to promote reintegration into the community.
• Interview and complete a wellbeing checklist for Aboriginal prisoners after reception.
• Advocate for Indigenous programs and services to meet pre- and post-release needs.
• Assist Aboriginal prisoners to access programs and entitlements.
• Regional travel may be required due to business demands.
