Job summary

NSW Health is seeking an Aboriginal Peer Worker for Suicide Prevention within the Mental Health team on the Central Coast. The role is temporary full time until March 2027, classified as Aboriginal Health Education Officer, with a remuneration range of AUD 1,481.43 to 2,366.94 per week.

Responsibilities include providing culturally safe peer support, developing recovery plans, facilitating group activities, and coordinating with clinicians to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

Qualifications

Demonstrated lived experience of mental health recovery or related distress.
Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
Commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and person-centred care.
Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

Provide peer support to consumers in distress or crisis to inspire hope and connection.
Assist in developing recovery and wellness plans leveraging consumer strengths.
Facilitate individual and group peer support activities focused on wellbeing.
Link consumers with housing, finances, counselling and other services.
Collaborate with clinicians and community services to support ongoing recovery.
