Job summary

Southern Adelaide Local Health Network – Margaret Tobin Centre (MTC) seeks an Aboriginal Liaison Officer to advocate for culturally safe healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, and to coordinate communication with healthcare teams and communities.

You will deliver cultural awareness education, build relationships with local Aboriginal organisations, and support discharge planning for Aboriginal patients in a compassionate, accountable manner.

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate culturally sensitive and accountable engagement with Aboriginal communities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and community issues.
  • Experience in advocacy or community liaison roles preferred.

As an Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer, you'll advocate for culturally safe healthcare and ensure the unique needs of Aboriginal patients are respected and met. About the role:

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, some of your duties for the role will include:

  • Provide cultural support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families
  • Facilitate communication between healthcare teams and community members
  • Deliver cultural awareness education to clinical and administrative staff
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local Aboriginal organisations and community groups
  • Support discharge planning and care coordination for Aboriginal patients
About you:
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally sensitive and accountable manner with Aboriginal individuals, families and communities Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with Aboriginal people, non-Aboriginal people, health workers and other organisations
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and community issues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in advocacy or community liaison roles preferred
