Job summary

Tresillian Tweed invites applications for an Aboriginal Health Worker to support families with early parenting needs. The role will be based in Tweed with a mobile 2U service, providing individual and group sessions, and outreach to surrounding communities.

The AHW will liaise with health professionals to ensure culturally safe services for Aboriginal children aged 0-3 and their families, with opportunities to collaborate with Elders and community networks.

Qualifications

• This is an Aboriginal identified position and the application must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
• A qualification in a health or social science or willingness to work towards obtaining same.
• Knowledge of Aboriginal Health issues relevant to maternal, infant/child and family health.
• Ability to communicate and liaise with communities, Health Professionals and Interagency services.
• Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and computer skills (word processing, email, internet).
• Current Drivers Licence Class C.

Responsibilities

• Provide support and referral services to Aboriginal children 0-3 years and families, ensuring culturally appropriate care.
• Collaborate with Aboriginal Elders and community members to co-design programs.
• Work with Child and Family Health Nurses and health workers to develop care plans.
• Develop networks to improve access to services for Aboriginal families.
• Apply trauma-informed care principles and understand adverse childhood experiences.
• Contribute to delivering services that reflect cultural safety.
