Job summary

A leading healthcare service provider in Melbourne is seeking an Aboriginal Engagement Worker for the Victims Assistance Program. This permanent full-time role involves helping Aboriginal victims of crime through practical assistance and therapeutic support, and requires engagement with the criminal justice system. We're looking for individuals with a tertiary qualification in social work or similar experience, as well as a current Victorian Driver’s License. This position is an Aboriginal designated role, encouraging culturally appropriate applications.

The Victims Assistance Program (VAP) is a critical part of the statewide response to victims of crime. IT provides services to victims at a local level and is delivered by community agencies, of which DPV Health are one. Trauma has been endured by Aboriginal people for generations, as a result of colonization and the dispossession of land and culture and is deeply rooted in communities. Aboriginal Engagement Workers (AEWs) help to mitigate the impacts of crime on Aboriginal victims and aid their recovery by providing practical assistance and access to therapeutic support. AEWs also provide victims with information and support to engage with the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities

• Help mitigate the impacts of crime on Aboriginal victims and aid their recovery by providing practical assistance & access to therapeutic support.
• Provide victims with information and support to engage with the criminal justice system.

Qualifications & Requirements

• A tertiary Qualification in social work or other related discipline is desirable but not mandatory.
• Experience undertaking community engagement and service delivery.
• Appropriate professional experience, skills, and training that align with the requirements of a SCHADS Award Level 5 employee.
• Information technology and computer skills.
• A current Victorian Driver’s License.
• Successful candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check, International Police Check (if applicable) and hold a valid WWCC & NDIS Clearance.
• Full driver license and travel between sites required.
