Job summary

Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service is seeking an Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer to join the Social, Emotional and Wellbeing team in Perth. The role focuses on supporting Aboriginal communities in line with Regional Aboriginal Suicide Prevention Plans, delivering culturally appropriate activities and education, and coordinating with partners to promote safety and wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicant as per Equal Opportunity Act.
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Mental Health required.
  • Genuine interest in Aboriginal Community Suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.
  • Commitment to the mission of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs).
  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Proven ability to work with a range of stakeholders.
  • Previous employment in Aboriginal Health or related communities.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Completion of Mental Health First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Criminal Record Screening Clearance.
  • Working with Children Check.
  • WA C or C-A Class Driver's Licence.
  • Successful Pre-Employment Health Assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the 'community voice' is the core influencer of CLO duties with respect to activities.
  • Harness community support to align with messages across a service region.
  • Develop and deliver activities or events with suicide prevention messages.
  • Develop and facilitate public education activities.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to implement activities.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and WHS compliance.
  • Stakeholder management across the region.
