Our Client

Our client is a major NSW Government agency responsible for revenue administration and services that support the NSW community. The organisation operates large-scale, business-critical technology platforms and is investing in digital and cloud transformation across its services.

Four Senior Java Developers are required for a major program modernising legacy revenue and tax collection applications. The environment combines established Java and Oracle platforms with Spring Boot, AWS and modern engineering practices.

About the Role

This is a hands‑on senior development role focused on upgrading and modernising complex legacy applications within a high‑volume government revenue environment.

• Position: Senior Java Developer x 4
• Rate:$900-$930/day + super
• Location: Parramatta, NSW
• Arrangement: Hybrid, 2-3 office days
• Hours: 40 hours per week
• Start: ASAP, subject to police check
• Duration: Until 30 March 2027

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and modernise enterprise Java applications supporting critical revenue services
• Upgrade legacy Java applications and integrate modern services
• Build backend services using Java, Spring Boot and microservices patterns
• Work extensively with Oracle, SQL and PL/SQL
• Develop and maintain REST APIs and system integrations
• Support AWS‑based application migration and cloud delivery
• Containerise and deploy applications using Docker
• Troubleshoot performance, integration and production issues
• Conduct code reviews and maintain engineering standards
• Implement automated testing and contribute to CI/CD practices
• Mentor developers and provide technical guidance
• Collaborate with architects, testers, analysts and business stakeholders
• Explore AI‑assisted engineering approaches for legacy application analysis and modernisation

Comparable Australian Senior Java roles commonly include REST APIs, CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, production troubleshooting and cloud/container delivery alongside Java, Spring Boot and AWS.

About You

• Strong commercial experience as a Senior Java Developer or Senior Software Engineer
• Excellent Java development capability, including experience with Java 7/8 or later
• Proven experience maintaining or modernising legacy enterprise applications
• Strong Spring Boot experience
• Hands‑on Oracle, SQL and PL/SQL skills
• Experience with JBoss or similar Java application servers
• Practical AWS development experience
• Understanding of microservices and REST API design
• Experience with Git, GitLab or Bitbucket
• Knowledge of Docker and containerised applications
• Experience with Hibernate or Spring Data
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum delivery
• CI/CD and automated testing experience highly regarded
• AI‑assisted development or legacy modernisation experience advantageous
• React experience is desirable but not essential
• Strong communication, problem‑solving and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to mentor less experienced developers while remaining hands‑on
• Australian Permanent Residency, Australian Citizenship or a valid long‑term Australian working visa required
• Full Australian working rights required; sponsorship is not available
