Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in supporting survivors of sexual violence with knowledge of dynamics and context.
  • Experience with intersectional feminist, rights advocacy, trauma-informed practice frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of NSW justice and recovery service offerings and multi-agency negotiation.
  • Experience in trauma-informed and survivor-centred practice, in related settings.
  • Experience conducting psychosocial assessments and risk assessments of adults and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed, survivor-centred support to victim-survivors across metropolitan Sydney.
  • Assist clients to understand rights and navigate justice and recovery services.
  • Support informed decisions about options for support and recovery.
  • Navigate criminal, civil and complaints processes and restorative justice options.

Introduction

Full Stop Australia is seeking a passionate and dedicated Sexual Violence Justice Navigator to join our team in Inner West. This vital role, situated within the Clinical and Client Services department, offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals affected by sexual violence.

About us

Full Stop Australia is a not-for-profit organisation, operating nationally, but based in Sydney. Our mission is to put a full stop to sexual, domestic, and family violence and to support those who have been impacted by violence and abuse. We operate the NSW Sexual Violence Helpline and a range of specialist Redress and domestic violence counselling services. Full Stop Australia also offers best-practice training and professional services to support safe and respectful workplaces, and advocates for changes to laws, policies, and practices to better prevent and respond to sexual, domestic, and family violence.

The NSW Government has provided funding to Full Stop Australia to invest in specialist workers who will deliver dedicated, trauma-informed support to sexual violence victim-survivors as part of its Strengthening Sexual Violence Justice Responses package.

About the role

This role is a fixed term, 24-month full time position.

The Justice Navigator will provide independent, specialist and trauma-informed support to victim-survivors of sexual violence across metropolitan Sydney, helping them to:

  • understand and access their rights;
  • make informed decisions about their support and recovery options; and
  • navigate justice processes and other relevant services and systems.

The Justice Navigator will work independently alongside victim-survivors to help them understand and navigate a range of services and systems, including, but not limited to:

  • criminal justice processes, including reporting to police and navigating court processes;
  • civil processes and claims;
  • complaints processes;
  • restorative justice options; and
  • universal and community-based services.
Skills and experiences

You will be someone who operates with the highest levels of professionalism and ethical behaviour, You will have the ability to support victim survivors to make informed choices and navigate systems in a way that reflects their individual needs, circumstances and goals.

You will also have qualifications, knowledge, skills, and experience in the following areas amongst others:

  • Demonstrated experience and skills in supporting survivors of sexual violence, with a strong knowledge of the dynamics of such violence, and the social and legal context in which it occurs.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the provision of a service based on an intersectional feminist, rights advocacy, violence and trauma informed practice framework.
  • Strong understanding of New South Wales justice and recovery service offerings and how to negotiate and advocate with multiple service systems to support the needs of clients and their families.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in trauma-informed and survivor-centred practice, preferably in a similar trauma recovery context or another area of trauma-focused service provision.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting psychosocial assessments and risk assessments of adults and families.A tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, criminology, law or other related discipline.
