Norsk Hydro is seeking a Senior Welding Engineer to support welding development, qualification and execution for railway structural components (MIG, TIG, FSW). You will ensure compliance with EN 15085 and ISO 3834.

You will lead optimization of welding parameters with production teams, develop WPS, provide on-site support, and drive continuous improvement across European sites within a dynamic, quality-driven environment.

Qualifikationen

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
• Hands-on welding experience MIG, TIG, FSW; ideally in rail or aluminium environments.
• Knowledge of railway welding standards EN 15085 and ISO 3834.
• Understanding of aluminium materials (6xxx alloys).
• Fluent English; German or French is an advantage.

Role Purpose

The role is responsible for supporting the development, qualification, and execution of welding activities for structural components in railway applications (MIG, TIG, FSW). It combines deep technical welding expertise with strong knowledge of standards, materials, and quality requirements specific to the rail sector. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with key railway standards such as EN 15085, and ISO 3834 and ensures compliance with other quality standards, HSE regulations, and customer requirements.

In addition, the role supports the Automotive Sector in the selection of appropriate technologies, cost evaluation, and serial equipment planning, while also guiding, advising, and challenging the production sites.

• Understanding of aluminium materials (especially 6xxx alloys) and manufacturing processes
• Strong analytical skills and a structured, problem‑solving mindset
• Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams and functions
• Fluent English (German/French is an advantage)
