Overview

Visitor Service Assistant, Clerk Grade 1/2 – multiple casual roles to 30 May 2026. Located in Sydney and working across multiple Parks within Greater Sydney Branch North or Greater Sydney Branch South. Package includes hourly rate ($41.46 to $45.08) plus employer’s superannuation contribution and applicable casual loading.

About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has multiple casual Visitor Service Assistants to contribute toward the conservation of the Greater Sydney National Parks and reserves. Roles are outdoors across multiple parks, based in the Greater Sydney Branch and across either:

  • Greater Sydney Branch South – Royal National Park, Kamay Botany Bay National Park and Georges River National Park.
  • Greater Sydney Branch North – Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Lane Cove National Park, Garigal National Park, Sydney Harbour North National Park.

You will greet and direct visitors, educate them on Park values, promote a positive visitor experience, and ensure compliance with Park rules. A typical day may include:

  • Providing information and advice to visitors on facilities, services and activities
  • Fostering appreciation and enjoyment of park values
  • Promoting Park activities
  • Operating visitor entry facilities that provide access to National Park areas
  • Collecting park use fees and issuing appropriate passes
  • Carrying out education and compliance patrol duties

Note: These roles require availability to work across weekends, school holidays and public holidays including Christmas/New Year period.

About You

To be successful, you will:

  • Enjoy working outdoors and sharing information with visitors
  • Act independently on matters related to visitor entry to the national park when policy guidance is not readily available
  • Maintain vigilance and safety awareness when conducting patrols and handling cash that is stored in the visitor entrance station until it is collected or banked
  • Provide superior customer service and communicate respectfully with a diverse range of people
Essential Requirements
  • Excellent oral communication, negotiation and customer service skills
  • Willingness to undertake education and enforcement duties related to the park use fee system and NPWS Regulations; ability to work unsupervised and adapt to competing priorities
  • Experience in cash handling procedures
  • Basic computer skills and ability to operate a two-way radio
  • Current manual driver’s licence
  • Holder must wear an NPWS uniform
  • This role involves weekend work and may include some evenings; shift-based under the Crown Employees (Public Service Conditions of Employment) Award 2009

Note: Some duties are performed outside normal operating times; staff are rostered in pairs to perform certain functions.
