Bitpanda, located in Vienna, seeks a backend engineer to design and scale high‑performance systems. You’ll build Rust services powering trading infrastructure and craft Python tooling to support the platform used by millions of users.

You should have 4+ years of backend experience, strong Rust skills, and knowledge of distributed, event‑driven architectures. The role offers a hybrid work model, competitive pay, and relocation/benefits to support growth.

Your mission

At Bitpanda, we’re building the trading and pricing infrastructure that powers investing across crypto, stocks, ETFs, metals, and fiat currencies. In this role, you’ll help design and scale high‑performance backend systems in Rust, while using Python for tooling and services that support our broader platform ecosystem. You’ll work on low‑latency, event‑driven systems that enable fast, reliable, and seamless trading experiences for millions of users.

What You’ll Do

• Build and scale high‑performance backend systems in Rust that power Bitpanda’s trading and pricing infrastructure
• Develop microservices and internal tooling using Python across a distributed systems environment
• Design clean, reliable, and maintainable solutions within an event‑driven architecture
• Work on real‑time systems handling market data, pricing, hedging, and asset management across multiple asset classes
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve system scalability, reliability, and performance

Who You Are

• 4+ years of backend engineering experience building scalable, production‑grade systems
• Strong hands‑on experience with Rust, plus solid working knowledge of Python
• Experience with distributed systems, asynchronous programming, and event‑driven architectures
• Familiarity with REST APIs, websockets, relational and/or NoSQL databases, and messaging systems such as Kafka or ZeroMQ
• Bonus points if you have experience with AWS, trading platforms, market data systems, or an interest in crypto and financial markets
